ADVANTAGES OF FUSED-SILICA CAPILLARY GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHY FOR GC/MS APPLICATIONS

Fused silica capillary gas chromatography (FSCC) provides excellent resolving power and inertness, leading to improved precision and sensitivity over conventional GC [gas chromatography] methods. When combined with mass spectrometry (MS), FSCC can be the best, and sometimes the only valid analytical method, particularly for biomedical applications at the lower detection limits. Examples were given which illustrated that the greater speed of analysis and the higher quality of results possible with FSCC/MS justified the added expense of the system in food, drug and enviromental analyses.
