CEMS STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE AND THE ANNEALING BEHAVIOR OF ALUMINUM IMPLANTED IRON

Iron implanted with different doses of aluminium ions (5 x 10(16) -5 x 10(17) cm-2) at 50, 100, and 200 keV is studied by conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy. Doses of 1 x 10(17) cm-2 are sufficient to produce strongly disordered layers. Depending on the implanted dose and energy their short range order is Fe3Al-like or FeAl-like. Annealing of the samples effects precipitation and crystallization processes. Between 400 and 600-degrees-C the FeAl-like order is transformed into a Fe3Al-like order. At 700-degrees-C the influence of the aluminium implantation is strongly decreased and alpha-iron is the predominant phase.
