摘要
Based on a review of the current literature, a surface phase diagram is proposed for the submonolayer Au on Si(lll) system. Kinetic considerations are reviewed and key surface phase diagram features such as the Theta < 0.4 ML metastable Si(111)-(root 3 x root 3)R30 degrees-Au structure and the high temperature Si(111)-(root 3 x root 3)R30 degrees-Au to Si(lll)-(1 x 1)Au second order phase transition are discussed. Experiments to verify certain portions of the phase diagram are proposed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
