Optical and electrical characterization of photochemically deposited CdS and Cd1-xZnxS alloys

Cd1-xZnxS alloys were deposited from an acidic solution using CdSO4, ZnSO4, and Na2S2O3 by photochemical deposition. Raman scattering studies were carried out for the films deposited with different Na2S2O3 concentrations. The variation of alloy composition x was determined from the longitudinal optical phonon frequency observed from the Raman peak position. The bandgap energies of the alloys were calculated from the transmittance spectra measured in the range 300-800 nm. The resistivities of the CdS and Cd1-xZnxS films were calculated from the current-voltage curve. The photosensitivity of the CdS and Cd1-xZnxS alloys were also studied by photoelectrochemical measurements. (c) 2006 The Electrochemical Society.
