摘要
In the last 40 years, positron emission tomography (PET) scanning has evolved from predominantly a research tool to an essential clinical imaging modality. Current PET scanners provide high quality images of the brain, thorax, and abdomen. A variety of PET devices are being manufactured from the dedicated, high-resolution scanners to single photon emission computed tomography systems that can also operate in coincidence mode to image positron emitters. The new generation of PET scanners may incorporate new scintillating materials. Combined PET-CT scanners provide anatomic and functional imaging in a single device. Dedicated devices for specific research applications, such as high-resolution scanners for imaging small animals, have also been developed.
