The formation of a noble nanocomposite consisting of self-organized chain of gold silicide nanocrystals pea-podded in a silicon oxide nanowire was demonstrated. The diameter and the number density of nanowires were controlled by altering the gold layer thickness. The results showed that the number density of nanowires with rare Au2Si nanopea-pods could be controlled by adjusting the growth time, using Au2Si as catalytic nucleation sites.
