An extremely unusual dimer [(bpy)(2)Zn(Pht)H(Pht)Zn(bpy)(2))](HPht)(H(2)Pht) . 2H(2)O (1) (where Pht(2-) = dianion of o-phthalic acid, bpy = 2,2-bipyridine) in which [Zn(bpy)(2)] metal cores are connected through Pht...H...Pht bridge has been synthesised and its structure determined by X-ray crystallography.
