beta-Cyclodextrin formed stable, crystalline 1:1 host:guest inclusion compounds, in high yields, with half-sandwich complexes of molybdenum of the type MoCp'(eta(3)-C3H5)(CO)(2) (Cp'=Cp, C5H4SiMe3 or C9H7). The products have been characterised in the solid state by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, TGA, powder X-ray diffraction and C-13 MAS NMR spectroscopy. Channel-type structures were formed with Cp'=Cp and C9H7, while with Cp'=C5H4SiMe3 the arrangement of the cyclodextrin molecules was more similar to that of pristine beta-cyclodextrin hydrate.
